Cordiluroides Albuquerque from Costa Rica: first records, descriptions and taxonomic changes (Diptera, Muscidae, Coenosiinae) Rev. Bras. entomol.
Couri,Márcia S.; Carvalho,Claudio J. B. de; Pont,Adrian C..
Cordiluroides Albuquerque is a genus of Neotropical Coenosiinae (Muscidae), known from six species. The genus is here recorded for the first time from Costa Rica, on the basis of three species: C. listrata Albuquerque, 1954, C. insularis (Willliston, 1896) and C. bistriata (Wulp, 1896) sp. rev.. We provide a key for the identification of these Costa Rican species, redescribe and illustrate their external morphological characters and terminalia. C. bistriata and C. vittifera (Stein, 1904) are both considered to be good species and are re-instated from the synonymy of C. insularis. The type material of C. listrata (Museu Nacional, Rio de Janeiro), of C. insularis and C. bistriata (The Natural History Museum, London) and of C. vittifera (Museum für...

Systematics and zoogeography of Asteroidea (Echinodermata) from Inhaca Island, Mozambique Naturalis
Walenkamp, J.H.C..
Sixteen out of the seventeen species of shallow-water starfishes reported with certainty from Inhaca Island and Maputo Bay were collected by the author. The seventeenth, Archaster angulatus, was recorded from there by Jangoux (1973). An identification key to these species, both in English and in Portuguese is presented. Four species have not been mentioned previously from Inhaca waters, viz. Astropecten monacanthus (because of earlier incorrect identifications), Monachaster sanderi, not known to occur further south than Zanzibar, Fromia milleporella and Ophidiaster hemprichii, which were not previously known to occur south of Madagascar. Stellaster equestris was found washed ashore on a sandy beach a little north of Maputo. The earlier recorded presence in...

The Old World species of Boehmeria (Urticaceae, tribus Boehmerieae). A taxonomic revision Naturalis
Wilmot-Dear, C.M.; Friis, I..
This is the second part of a world-wide revision of the genus Boehmeria, the previously-published part having dealt with the New World species. The Old World species are widely distributed in the tropics and subtropics from West Africa to islands in the Pacific Ocean and from Japan and China to Southern Africa, Madagascar and Australia, with the highest species richness in the Himalayas and their extension into China and Indochina. No indigenous species is common to both the Old and New World. The species represent taxonomic units of very different complexity: most species exhibit little infraspecific variation; in several others formal taxonomic infraspecific units can be recognised; however, in two, B. virgata and B. japonica, a highly complex variation...

Towards a systematic standard approach to describing fossil crinoids, illustrated by the redescription of a Scottish Silurian Pisocrinus de Koninck Naturalis
Fearnhead, F.E..
Systematic taxonomy requires thoughtful, detailed and structured descriptions of species characters, and essential additional data for effective comparison with other specimens. Crinoid terminology is commonly misused or at best confused. The purpose of this paper is to facilitate this process by encouraging a standard methodology which would make comparisons of fossil crinoid taxa easier for all. An ordered tabulation of those characters that should be considered in any description of a fossil crinoid is provided and implemented in describing a Scottish Llandovery (Lower Silurian) disparid crinoid Pisocrinus cf. campana S.A. Miller.

Two new species of brood protecting Desmodoridae (Nematoda) from Guadeloupe OMA
Gourbault, N.; Vincx, M..
Two new Desmodoridae species are described: Croconema otti sp. n. and Pseudochromadora incubans sp. n. The cuticular ornamentation and somatic setae of C. otti sp. n. display features previously unknown within the genus. In P. incubans sp. n. the position of the cephalic setae and latero-subdorsal amphids on the cephalic capsule, which is divided into two sections, are characteristic. Brood protection occurs in both species. In C. otti sp. n. a single line of similar embryos is attached laterally on the left side of the body. In P. incubans</i< sp. n. up to three eggs, at different developmental stages, hang in a row under the modified area immediately anterior to...
